June, or jb as she is often
called, is a storyteller/author/educator and the founder of swag
of yarns-Australia's National Storytelling Magazine.
June's
ability as a storyteller was always evident. At primary school
her teachers nicknamed her 'Enid Blyton'! As a teenager June's
written stories were published in New Idea (a national magazine)
and other journals. However it wasn't until 1990 that June discovered
the joy of telling stories after contacting the Storytelling Guild
of Australia (VIC), Since then jb has told stories for
thousands of children and adults at a huge variety of venues
including schools, libraries, kindergartens, business conferences,
Dymocks Book Stores, Government House, Victoria, ABC Radio, cafes
and festivals. She is also featured on the audiotape Mystery
and Mayhem produced by the Storytelling Guild of Australia
(VIC Branch)
Storytelling uses the skills of the oral tradition, relying
on voice, memory and imagination to carry stories to listeners.
The storyteller doesn't memorise the story word for word or read
the story from a book. In the words of one young listener the
storyteller tells stories 'from the face'.
